Bircza

Bircza [ˈbirt͡ʂa] (Ukrainian: Бірча, romanized: Bircha) is a village in Przemyśl County, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, in south-eastern Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Bircza. It lies approximately 24 kilometres (15 mi) south-west of Przemyśl and 51 km (32 mi) south-east of the regional capital Rzeszów.[1] The village has a population of 1,000. In Bircza was born Orthodox metropolitan Yov Boretsky and Jan Komski.

Before World War II, the Bircza area was home to a large Jewish community. Nearly all of them were murdered during the ensuing Holocaust.
