After leaving Richmond, Dooley became head coach at Delaware Valley College in 1998.[3] After going 17-31, Dooley left to become head coach for Ireland's national team. Following this run, Dooley returned to Delaware Valley in 2002 but left midseason the following year.[3]

In 2004, Dooley was hired as an assistant at La Salle by Billy Hahn. However, just three weeks after being hired the school was rocked by a rape scandal involving several players. Dooley was named interim coach while Hahn was placed on administrative leave and ultimately dismissed.[4] Dooley was not retained as an assistant by new head coach John Giannini.

On August 10, 2012, Dooley was announced as an assistant for coach John Gallagher at Hartford.[5]

On September 11, 2015, Dooley was announced as an assistant with the Virginia Tech Hokies women's basketball team under coach Dennis Wolff.[6]

gollark: "We"?
gollark: ???
gollark: Things which extend into those instead of just having a constant fixed position in said new spatial dimension are also not going to somehow stop being subject to time, unless the laws of physics privilege it somehow, which would be really weird.
gollark: For one thing, if you add extra spatial dimensions to our universe on top of the existing 3, it isn't suddenly going to gain multiverses or something; ignoring all the complex physics things I'm not aware of which are probably sensitive to this, it will just be another direction in which you can move, perpendicular to the other 3.
gollark: I think your understanding of how spatial dimensions work is inaccurate.
