There are currently three recognized species in this genus:[1]
- Bidenichthys beeblebroxi Paulin, 1995: "Found in holes beneath rocks and boulders from the surface to 30 m around the North Island and northern part of South Island, New Zealand. Common."[2]
- Bidenichthys capensis Barnard, 1934 (Freetail brotula):[3] The type species for the genus; "intertidal in rocky tidepools from East London to the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. Uncommon."[2]
- Bidenichthys consobrinus (F. W. Hutton, 1876) (Grey brotula): "Rocky areas at depths of 30 to 178 m off northern New Zealand. Rare."[2]
gollark: Why do people keep *spreading* these ridiculous announcements about things, and trying to ping several thousand people about them?
gollark: I was talking about the petition, the moderator picture is obviously real.
gollark: That is some high-quality image editing.
gollark: In fact, a lot of the time, the cover image is bigger than the text.
gollark: I'm not a cloud person. It's stored locally (and besides, any cloud thing should probably report filesizes sanely). The thing is that most books are actually less than a megabyte or so, because they generally don't contain many pictures and text compresses really well.
