Betancourt Bridge

Betancourt Bridge (Russian: Мост Бетанку́ра, Most Betankura) is a non-bascule 6-lanes bridge with the cycle path in Saint Petersburg, opened in 2018. The bridge crosses the Little Neva River and connects the Vasilyevsky and Petrogradsky islands.[1] It is named in honor of Agustín de Betancourt, prominent engineer of Spanish origin, who worked on many objects in the city.[2][3]

Betancourt bridge

The bridge was built in the purpose of lowering the traffic in city centre. Unlike the next two bridges down the Little Neva River, this bridge is not bascule. Despite this, its height allows to pass vessels with maximum height of 16 metres (52 ft).[4]

Location

Little Neva divides Vasilievsky and Petrogradsky islands and is one of the two major arms of the Neva River alongside Great Neva. The bridge crosses Little Neva and the small island in its watercourse named Serny.
