Ballıqaya massacre

Ballıqaya massacre was a massacre of Azeri civilians by Armenian Armed Forces on 28 August 1992.

Preceding events

After capture of their houses in Lachin District by Armenian forces on 18 May 1992, Abdullayev Abdulla, Hümbətov Vəzir, Məhərrəmov Kamil, Məhərrəmov Cəmil, Mehdiyev Binnət, Mehdiyev Hümbət, Mehdiyev Məhəmməd and Mehdiyev Rəhbər and their families became refugees and moved to Murovdag in Goygol District.[1][2][3]

In late August 1992, those families moved to Ballıqaya in Goranboy District for better conditions for animal husbandry.[4]

Incident

3 days after their move to Ballıqaya, on 28 August 1992, 5 o'clock, families houses was target of a group of 12 Armenian troops with artillery and machine guns. 24 civilians died as a result of attack.[5][6][7]

Armenian troops left the scene thinking no civilians survived but Məhərrəmov Yaqub, Abdullayeva Züleyxa, Alməmmədova Şəhla, Mehdiyeva Lamiyyə, Mehdiyeva Elxan, Mehdiyeva Məhəmməd, Məhərrəmov Xoşbəxt and Muradova Xuraman survived the attack, all of them with injuries. 4 other civilians was taken as hostages.[8][9]
