Büyükdere, Sarıyer
Büyükdere is a quarter of Sarıyer district in Istanbul Province, Turkey. It is situated on the European shoreline of Bosphorus about 2 km (1.2 mi) southwest of Sarıyer. In the past, the settlement was also home to Greek and Armenian minorities. A few remnants of these minorities still live in the quarter, especially uphill.

A 14 km (8.7 mi)-long major road, the Büyükdere Avenue starts south of the quarter, and runs up to Şişli Mosque becoming a main financial and business street in Şişli district.
Places of interest
The Sadberk Hanım Museum, a private archaeology and ethnography museum housed in a typical wooden Ottoman-style mansion, is found in the quarter.[2]
In the settlement, there are historic religious buildings, such as a mosque (Kara Kethüda Mosque, 18th century),[3] a Greek Orthodox church (Ayias Paraskevi Church, 1831),[4] a Latin Catholic church (Italian Santa Maria Church, 1866),[5] an Armenian Catholic church (Surp Boğos Church, 1885),[6] and an Armenian Apostolic church (Surp Hıripsimyants Church, 1886).[7] Educational institutions within the quarter are a primary school (Mehmet İpkin İlköğretim Okulu),[8] and a vocational high school for girls (Sarıyer Kız Teknik ve Meslek Lisesi).[9] Sarıyer district municipality's income tax department and the fire department are based in Büyükdere.
The Regional Command of the Turkish Coast Guard for Marmara Sea and the Turkish Straits is based at Büyükdere on a 2.1 ha (5.2 acres) land. Its headquarters is housed in a 1902-built hunting lodge of Mehmed VI, the last Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.[10] Some vessels of the Coast Guard are docked at Büyükdere Pier of the Command.
