Ayyappa Masagi

Ayyappa Masagi[1] is considered a "Water Warrior" for India. He has helped create countless solutions to India's water scarcity problem and many communities, farms, and towns are now more water efficient through his help and guidance.

He has been nicknamed "Water Gandhi" by villagers on the Karnataka-Andhra Pradhesh border.[2]

Personal life

Ayyappa Masagi is from a small village in the Gadag District of North Karnataka. As a child he helped provide water to his family by walking miles every day with his mother in the wee hours. His passion for water conservation started because of this and grew as he gained relevant knowledge from his parents and research about water and agriculture. After graduating and starting a career, he eventually started working for a company in Bangalore called Larsen & Toubro where he worked for 23 years as a mechanical engineer.[3] Wanting to pursue his passion for helping India's growing water scarcity issue, he quit his job and Founded the Water Literacy Foundation. He was motivated to achieve greatness and he would stop at nothing to help all suffering communities that were desperate for a solution that would provide them with clean, safe water on a daily basis.[1]

Bhageeratha: War on Water Crisis, Converting Dry Land into Wet Land was written by Ayyappa Masagi about his own life experiences with water issues and his successful work with his organizations the Water Literacy Foundation and Rain Water Concepts Pvt. (I). The book also helps everyone become a water warrior by explaining different techniques about saving and recharging our precious water. Moreover, the reader will get a full overview about all of the finished projects.[4]
