Ayagoz

Ayagoz or Ayakoz (Kazakh: Аягөз, Aıagóz), formerly Sergiopol (Russian: Сергиополь), is a city of regional significance in Kazakhstan, the administrative centre of Ayagoz district of East Kazakhstan Region. It is located in eastern Kazakhstan, on the banks of the Ayagoz River. Population: 37,537 (2009 Census results);[1]38,470 (1999 Census results).[1]

History

The town was incorporated in 1939 under the power of USSR.

In 1991 it became an administrative center of Ayagoz District.

Ayagoz has a warm, dry-summer continental climate (Dsb) in the Köppen climate classification.
