History

The iconic locality of Senhora da Torre, alongside the Ave, is the home to ancient ruins of castro from the Luso-Roman period of the region's history.[2] It is also the location of a small chapel and lookout, the Miradouro da Senhora da Torre.[2]

Until 1836 the parish was part of the municipality of Landim, until it was de-annexed and absorbed into Santo Tirso.[2]

Geography

Areias is situated on the right margin of the Ave River, in the extreme north of the municipality.[2]

Architecture

The parish is notable for a few national monuments, including:

  • Nuno Álvares Institute (Portuguese: Hotel Termal das Caldas da Saúde/Instituto Nuno'Alvres/Instituto Nuno Álvares)[2][3]
  • Thermal heath spa (Portuguese: Termas das Caldas da Saúde)[2][4]

gollark: Anyway, if anyone wants to contribute code that would be appreciated. I'm not releasing the current code because I do not like it and it is unfinished, so just guess what code I might want and send me it.
gollark: The sanity thing, I mean.
gollark: Wait, what? When was that?
gollark: Nobody has blocked me, as far as I know.
