Area codes 234 and 330

Area codes 234 and 330 are North American telephone area codes in the United States for part of northeast Ohio. Area code 330 was established on March 9, 1996, and was Ohio's first new area code since the North American Numbering Plan started in 1947.

History

The overlay, area code 234, was established on October 30, 2000,[1] but phone numbers were not assigned to it until 2003.[2] They cover the Akron, Canton, Youngstown, and Warren areas. Ten-digit dialing has been mandatory since October 1, 2000.[1][3][4]

Area codes 234 and 330 were originally part of area code 216, one of the original North American Numbering Plan codes. Some of the first 234 numbers were assigned in 2003, when a new FedEx Custom Critical office opened on Boettler Road in Green, Ohio.[5]

Area code 234 was planned to become the area code for the Jacksonville, Florida area, but local businesses and the Federal Communications Commission split the existing area code, 904, into area codes 850 and 386.[6]

gollark: Although the grammar seems slightly wrong in parts.
gollark: I quite like this and have now put it into my RSS reader.
gollark: I guess it might be a bit tricky to normalize different spellings etc. but meh.
gollark: I don't mean they'd specify a list of tags, I mean they would just provide titles and the system would magically™ determine (implicit) categories based on like/dislikes overlap.
gollark: It could probably work to have people just provide a list of things they like and how much, and have users specify people whose preferences match theirs to some degree (and to find them automatically via any overlap they do have), and then build a recommender thing out of that.
