Area code 274

North American telephone area code 274 is a proposed state of Wisconsin area code which will overlay with Area code 920 over much of eastern Wisconsin. Implementation was planned to begin in 2012, but conservation efforts, a falling number of landline connections, and less need for numbers after the 2008 Great Recession allowed the implementation date to be pushed back to a later date.[1][2] Beginning then, all new telephone numbers will have the 274 area code, while old ones will keep their 920 area code, with ten-digit dialing to be instituted among all in the area code upon implementation.[3]
