Anil Chauhan

Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM is a General Officer in the Indian Army. He is the current General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Eastern Command. He took office on 1 September 2019 following Lt. General Manoj Mukund Naravane's elevation to the post of Vice Chief of Army Staff.[1][2]

He previously served as the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army. [3] He was previously the Commander, III Corps of the Indian Army and took over this role from Lt. General Abhay Krishna.[4][5][6][7][8]

Early life and education

Chauhan is an alumnus of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Fort William, Kolkata, National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.[4][7]

Career

Chauhan was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles in 1981. He has held several command, staff and instructional appointments during his career and has experience in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast India. He was also server as a United Nations mission to Angola.[4][7]

During his career, he has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (2020), Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (2018), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, the Sena Medal, the Vishisht Seva Medal for his service.[4][7][9]

In July 2019, he was appointed to succeed Manoj Mukund Naravane as GOC-in-C, Eastern Command when the latter becomes Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS) on 31 August.[10]
