DCYF reform and work with Nicholas Alahverdian

Rep. Williams is known for her collaboration with lobbyist and Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth & Families reform activist Nicholas Alahverdian. For nearly two decades, Williams and Alahverdian have worked to raise community awareness of the widespread abuse and neglect that children in DCYF care suffer on a daily basis. Among the bills that Williams and Alahverdian have drafted and introduced, the 2011 bill to create an "Emergency Oversight Commission on DCYF" is most notable.[2]

Alahverdian noted in an April 2017 Providence Journal column that Rep. Williams had reintroduced the resolution to create the Special House Oversight Committee on DCYF only for it to be tabled by House Leadership in the prior month.[3]
