After premiering at the Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool it transferred to the Haymarket Theatre in London's West End where it ran for 286 performances from 26 November 1953 to 30 October 1954. Directed by John Gielgud, the cast included Gielgud, Ralph Richardson, Sybil Thorndike, Irene Worth, Megs Jenkins, Harcourt Williams, Frederick Piper and Mary Jerrold.[1] In 1955 it premiered on Broadway at the ANTA Theatre.
