2020 Depok mayor election[1][2] is the general election to elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Depok for the period 2021 – 2026. This election was held by the Depok City Election Commission (KPU) which was held on December 9, 2020.

Background

This election is the fourth regional head election which conducts direct elections. The Mayor of Depok, Idris Abdul Shomad can submit a re-nomination as Depok Mayor.

Delay

The plan, regional elections in 2020 was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4] Initially there were three options for delaying the simultaneous local elections:[5]

  1. The delay is three months from the initial voting schedule, which is December 9, 2020. This option is taken if the pre-ballot election stage can begin at the end of May 2020.
  2. The delay was carried out for six months from the initial schedule, namely March 17, 2021.
  3. Election voting was postponed for 12 months until September 29, 2021.

The government together with the Indonesian Parliament agreed to postpone the previous election date on September 23, 2020 to December 9, 2020.

In this election, there are three camps that will carry candidates for mayor and deputy mayor candidates, including the PKS party that carries the three names of potential mayor candidates, the Gerindra & PDI-P agreed to support the mayor candidate who came from the Gerindra Party, while the Deputy Mayor's candidate came from the PDI-P and the four parties that agreed to build the Depok Organized Coalition on 1 February 2020.[6]
