Overview

The bus was carrying around 50 passengers, mostly Iranian expatriates who were post-graduate students at the University of the Visayas and Cebu Doctors' University.[2] The bus had been travelling from Cebu City to Balamban.[3] At around 10:30 am, local time, while the bus was traversing the Trans Central Highway in Balamban, Cebu, the brakes apparently failed and the bus fell some 30 meters into a ravine.[4] At least 21 of the passengers were killed, while around 30 were injured.

The Iranian government announced that its embassy in Manila would be probing the bus accident, whose fatalities were mostly Iranian.[5] The Iranian government also announced that it would be sending special aircraft to the Philippines to evacuate its injured nationals.[6] Iranians students had been in the Philippines under a special arrangement for a residency program with the Professional Regulation Commission.[7]

Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo ordered an immediate probe into the accident.[8] It emerged that the owner of the tourist bus, J & D Tours, had not been accredited by the Department of Tourism, and its remaining vehicles were impounded by local authorities.[9]

gollark: Your idea of "run the thing backward" is quite obvious to anyone who looks at the problem. There have been many people looking at the problem. So if it worked someone would have proved collatz now.
gollark: <@!714406501346967572> 0.4 offense, but if you could easily prove the Collatz conjecture with relatively simple maths someone already would have,
gollark: I assume the 0/1/infinite solution thing is from something something linear algebra.
gollark: Ah. So the matrix maps the values of all the variables to the outputs of each equation, and the same output can be attained in multiple ways sometimes.
gollark: No, I mean how do you use that to get intuition for number of solutions of some equations.
