In the playoffs, the Jazz defeated the Denver Nuggets in six games in the First Round, before getting swept by the eventual and back-to-back NBA champion, the Los Angeles Lakers, in the Semifinals. This marked the third consecutive season the Jazz had their season ended by the Lakers.

Game 4 of the Conference Semifinals was Jerry Sloan's final playoff appearance as head coach as he resigned the next season.

The Jazz would not return to the playoffs until 2012.
