Lachlan Football Club, based at the Kensington Park trotting track in New Norfolk rebranded themselves as the Lachlan Dockers this season (formerly the Bombers) and wore the Fremantle Dockers playing uniform of green, white, red and purple.
They were unable to field sides in all three grades for their Round 14 away fixture to Claremont at Abbotsfield Park owing to an already chronic shortage of players, injuries and players unavailable due to work at the ANM Boyer Mill.
The STFL convened a meeting to discuss the issue and concluded that they would give the club one final chance to get their house in order or consider cutting them from the league altogether at the conclusion of the season.
For their part, Lachlan conceded that they needed to do more in order to remain viable in the STFL and decided to hunt for an ex-TFL Statewide League player to captain-coach the club the following season.
With the club continuing to suffer from a somewhat stigmatised reputation their bid for a high-profile playing coach was unsuccessful and with a continuing dearth of player numbers, the club eventually went out of business in late 1997.
