1996 Pittwater state by-election

The 1996 Pittwater state by-election was held on 25 May 1996 for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly electorate of Pittwater following the retirement of sitting member, Jim Longley.[1]

On the same day, by-elections were held in the seats of Clarence, Orange, Southern Highlands and Strathfield.

All seats were retained by the Liberal-National parties, with the exception of Clarence.[2] In Pittwater, the Liberal Party retained the seat despite a swing of 5.81% against them on a two-party preferred basis.[3]

gollark: Your teachers *guess* what your grades will be, and you get offers based on that, then have to hope that you get the predicted ones or better.
gollark: We have an insane system where it's partly based on *predicted* grades, too.
gollark: Some universities have them, but otherwise it's based on A-level grades, sometimes other things and (ugh) "personal statements".
gollark: I mean, here in the UK, we actually don't have standardized university entrance exams (yes I am 14 minutes late to this now).
