- February 2–April 4 – The eruption of Mayon Volcano occurred, that killed 77 people, mostly farmers, due to pyroclastic flow from the eruption of the volcano. Aside from pyroclastic flows, the volcano also spewed ash and lava. Towns of Mabinit, Bonga, Camalig, Sto. Domingo, Legazpi in Albay were damaged.
- June 23–27 – Typhoon Goring causes massive damage to the provinces in Northern and Central Luzon, that left 51 people dead, 5 missing, injuring 109 others and left ₱2.775 billion in damages.
- June 28–29 – Two University of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna students Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez were abducted and killed by the men of Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez.
- July 2 – 266 people were killed after a pagoda sank in Bocaue, Bulacan due to overloading of the boat.
- July 7 – Rosilin Federico, a 22-year old nursing student was raped and killed by brothers Ramon, Adorable and Zaldy dela Paz, Joel Borion and Allan Florentino in Marikina City.
- August 13 – Murders of Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez: Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez was arrested, but maintained he was innocent. He then accused Kit Alqueza, son of Gen. Dictador Alqueza, who was charged of masterminding Gomez's killing.
- September 7–11 – Funeral of Ferdinand Marcos: Remains of former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos return in the country upon permission from the government; are interred later in his hometown of Batac.
- September 12 – Murders of Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez: The court formally read the case against Sanchez, along with the six henchmen: Then Calauan deputy chief of police George Medialdea, Luis Corcolon, Rogelio Corcolon, Zoilo Ama, Pepito Kawit, and Baldwin Brion.
- September 24 – Biggest corruption case in the Philippines. Former first lady Imelda Marcos was convicted for the first time of corruption and sentenced to 24 years in prison.[1]
- December 3 – Five people were killed in a massacre in Sitio Kulasisi, Antipolo City, Rizal.
- December 13 – Pres. Ramos signs Republic Act No. 7659 that reinstating capital punishment for selected crimes, which is banned in the 1987 Constitution.
- December 24 – Five shoppers were killed and 48 others are wounded in a grenade explosion into a market in Misamis Occidental.[2]
- December 26 – Grenade attacks occur in a Roman Catholic cathedral and a Muslim mosque in Davao City; at least 6 people are killed and more than 130 are wounded in the first incident, while no casualties in the second one.[2]
