1988 East Texas State Lions football team
The 1988 East Texas State Lions football team represented East Texas State University in the 1988 NCAA Division II football season. They were led by head coach Eddie Vowell, who was in his third season at East Texas State. The Lions played their home games at Memorial Stadium and were members of the Lone Star Conference. The Lions finished tied for second in the Lone Star Conference. The Lions started out the season at 8-1 and reached as high as number 2 in the national polls before losing their final two games. It was Vowell's first winning season as head coach and the first season at .500 in three years, and the first winning season since 1983.
