Second-seeded Chris Evert defeated defending champion Martina Navratilova in the final, 6–3, 2–6, 6–3 to win the Women's Singles tennis title at the 1982 Australian Open. Courtesy of winning her first Australian Open title, Evert completed the career Grand Slam.
