Offseason

Cup hero goaltender Frank McCool held out. The Maple Leafs decided to play the tandem of Baz Bastien and Gordie Bell.[1]

Regular season

Without Frank McCool, the team only won three of the first thirteen games, and the Leafs and McCool came to terms.[1] The club continued to struggle and only won eight of the first 28 games. Turk Broda returned from war-time duty in January, but the team continued to struggle. All-Star defenceman Babe Pratt was suspended, but was reinstated after nine games. The team won only two of the nine games and dropped out of playoff contention. The club finished in fifth place, out of the playoffs. The team was only the second team to miss the playoffs after winning the Cup.[1]

gollark: Tesselation is just covering a plane with tiles with no gaps/overlaps.
gollark: I mean, I think Euclidean geometry applies to 3D too, but we're talking about specifically 2D things here.
gollark: The regular 2D kind.
gollark: <@249056455552925697> You know tesselations of stuff in regular Euclidean geometry, where you have infinite grids of squares and triangles and hexagons and all that?
gollark: I don't actually understand the maths involved well enough to generate those myself, but I was reading the Wikipedia articles on it and thought "hmmm, these patterns are neat, I will use [search engine] image search to find a nice one to use as a profile picture".
