Spoke Stables

The Spoke Stables was a prowlgrin training business in Hive during the Third Age of Flight. A couple of years after its founding, it suffered from some financial troubles and almost went bankrupt, but recovered after one of its prowlgrins won the high-jump.

History

Founding

There were stables on the site prior to c. 617 ᴇ.ʏ., which were owned by friends of Tillman Spoke. When Spoke retired from his job in the Great Glade Militia, he chose to take 40 pedigree grey prowlgrin eggs instead of a pension. The plan was for Spoke to train the prowlgrins using the facilities of the stables. During the journey to Hive, one of the eggs hatched and imprinted on Cade Quarter, leaving 39 to train in the stables.[1]

Over the next two years, the previous owners of the stables left, leaving Spoke in control of the business. Feldia "Whisp" Dace and three gyle goblins were also hired as grooms. He also obtained another pedigree grey, and Whisp brought her own prowlgrin, Dominix, with her, meaning the number of prowlgrins in the stables totalled 41.

High jump tournament

In c. 619 ᴇ.ʏ., the stables came upon hard times, and was running out of money. Because of this, they decided to enter Whisp and Dominix into a high-jump. The Hive Militia offered to purchase all 40 of the pedigree greys if they could win the event with such an elderly prowlgrin.[2]

Whisp won the high-jump, which saved the business. Not only did the militia purchase all their prowlgrins, but they also collected 10,000 hivers in winnings from the tournament.[3]
