Scuttlers

Scuttlers were workers in the phraxmines whose job was to keep the tunnels clear of rubble and vermin, and to keep the oil drums full[1]. Their quarters were in old, depleted, funnel galleries[2], and they spent most of their time beneath the Twilight Woods, so their minds were at great risk[1]. Because of this, scuttlers took every opportunity to repeat details about their lives to try to preserve their sanity[1]. Despite the dangers of being a scuttler, and the poor wages, there were always new recruits available because all scuttlers dreamed of someday becoming phraxminers and having the opportunity to make their fortunes[2].
