Grent One-Tusk

Grent One-Tusk was a long-haired goblin who worked in New Sanctaphrax at the Great Library. He was a descender on the Fifth Descent but died before they reached the Scree Fields as he removed his Glister Helmet and left the Linius Pallitax.

Biography

Grent was brought up in a prominent family in Hive. They had become the most powerful goblin clan and Grent was encouraged to be part of this community from birth: he was part of the 1st Hive Cadets. Once however, when he was on an errand, he went beside himself up to the door of the Sumpwood Bridge Academy. Here he was invited in by Durldew, who was an archivist and knowing the problems people in the clan faced he invited him to be an archivist with him.

Later in life, Grent moved to New Sanctaphrax and became an archivist at the Great Library, where he sorted and read barkscrolls and even began to write a treatise of his own. He eavesdropped as Eudoxia Prade and Cade Quarter came back to New Sanctaphrax and then told what he had heard to some academics in the Academy Refectory. When he was exiting the refectory, he ran into his friend, Brocktinius Rolnix. They decided to stone-spotting with each other the following day.

On the way, he met Cade Quarter and invited him to go stone-spotting with them. Grent felt very sick during on the flight and kept closing his eyes. Finally, they saw the stone and tried to make observations before it dropped into the ground in Undergarden, but they were too late. They did, however, meet Fenda Fulefane, whose laboratory had been destroyed by the stone, and Grent decided to stay longer in Undergarden to be with her.

Later, Grent took part in the Fifth Descent. We get the impression that he is now with Fenda, however this is not completely confirmed. Later on the descent, near the Scree fields, he was affected by a glister storm and was taken back to his past. The delusions caused him to remove his glister helmet and leave the Linius Pallitax to fall to his death.
