Telnet, DNS Name Resolution Issues, and Hyper-V

0

I have a Fedora Linux machine that can only be telnet'd into by using the IP address and not the hostname. I am not sure why this is happening as I would like to be able to use the hostname as well.

Here are some details:

  • I have a Fedora Linux machine that was deployed by Hyper-V in Windows.
  • A DNS entry was automatically added to the DNS server / domain controllers.
  • Linux Computer doesn't show in Active Directory or in Network list in Windows OS.
  • When using the IP address for the Linux machine, I can successfully telnet to the machine.

From one of the windows machines, does 'nslookup linux-hostname' resolve to the correct IP? How about 'nslookup linux-hostname.fully.qualified.domain.name'? – Jim G. – 2015-10-29T17:06:41.037
