I have tried several times to re-install Windows XP, but I keep getting the Cyclic Redundancy Check Error
message.
I replaced the DVD drive and tried again, and after several times, I eventually managed to start the installation. The whole process continued until it was only 4 minutes from completion, but I am now getting a different error message: NTLDR is missing
.
I have tried several things such as recovery, repairing and formatting the hard disk, even starting from scratch several times, but I cannot proceed.
Have you tried a different installation disc? Cyclic redundancy errors would indicate the disc is damaged. – James P – 2013-09-03T08:50:26.120
Run a memory test for an hour or two using something like memtest86+ – Tog – 2013-09-03T08:52:57.223
Yes, James, I've tried 2 genuine Microsoft XP home Edition discs, both mine, and both in excellent condition, but the problems are the same whichever disc I use. I am trying to save 2 older, XP build, pc's for a friend. Thanks Tog, but I can't connect to the internet to access a memtest86+ download – colin – 2013-09-08T10:29:19.753
