When I try to navigate to the start of a buffer with M-<
, Emacs instead inserts a weird character ¯
. How should I correct Emacs or Terminal.app to fix this?

Terminal -> Preferences... -> Settings -> (profile) -> Keyboard -> Use option as meta key
