I have a Mac email client that, every so often, stops displaying the badge count. I've tried all fixes - changing app notification settings, changing Notification Center settings, uninstalling/reinstalling, logging in/out, removing cache, killing Dock, etc. Nothing works. The only thing that works is force quitting the app and restarting the laptop.
My question is: What is restarting Mac doing underneath that's different from what I've tried? Is there a way to achieve the same effect without needing a restart?
