Upgrade to High Sierra from dual boot osx

0

I have a dual boot Mac. It currently has two equal partitions.

One partition has Yosemite 10.10. The other older partition has Mountain Lion 10.8. I would want to upgrade Mountain Lion 10.8 to 10.13, High Sierra.

I am concerned about the AFS file system change.

What is the best method/steps to upgrade the "main partition" which has 10.8? Main as this was what was on the machine before the dual boot setup.

I'm not certain if High Sierra will default to APFS for a spinny hard disk. If it doesn't don't volunteer for it, it's terrible in HS [even on SSDs] I'd have stuck at El Capitan on that machine, but Apple won't let you get the El Cap installer if the machine can run HS. I'd definitely clone the whole lot before starting out. It *should* be fine to do what you propose, but just in case... – Tetsujin – 2019-02-14T16:04:11.430
