Adding Windows PC to Switch kills it?

0

Ive got a weird networking issue that I cant get my head around any maybe someone can get better sense of the issue then me.

Ok so ive got a Netgear Powerline 1000 which gives internet to my Netgear switch. the switch currently has a raspberry pi connected to it running my webserver. I also have a Dell computer thats running linux Mint. both of these computers get internet fine and everything was peachy.

today I added a new computer to the loop, installed it with windows 10 and added it to the switch. As soon as i plug the ethernet cable into the switch it kills everything. The cable connecting the powerline and the switch apperently goes dark and stops connecting the two. which drop internet for everything. it will try to come back up but as soon as the windows machine makes a request it kills it.

if i unplug the windows computer from the switch everything is fine and connects.

Ive tried connecting the computer with different methods to ensure its not a faulty nic.

And I can only get the issue to replicate on a Windows 10 VM. If i plug in my personal Windows 10 PC (which is usually on wifi) it connects just fine and dosent crash it. but as soon as i connect a the windows 10 pc or the windows 10 vm it crashes. but connecting a linux vm or a Mac laptop dosent affect it at all.

any ideas??

I'm assuming you tried different ports and cables? – ernie – 2017-10-20T17:24:39.727

Check for an IP conflict ensuring the Windows 10 VM machine does not have a static assigned to it which is already assigned to something on the network which the Powerline Ethernet is using. Check the IP configurations on all devices, etc. and on the VM before and/or after you connect it when the problem occurs. – Pimp Juice IT – 2017-10-22T19:25:37.293
