Partclone taking 50 hours to back up 1 TB

0

I’m using Partclone 0.2.66 downloaded from the UBCD. I have a 3 TB hard drive split into three separate partitions of 1 TB each. It seems that there was a bunch of SMART errors on that drive, so I am assuming that something on there is going kaput.

I just obtained a new 4 TB hard drive and split it into four 1 TB partitions.  Now I’m using Partclone to copy from the bad drive to the good. The only problem is that it says it will take upwards of 50 hours (!) to copy one partition.

I am assuming that the 50 hours estimation is due to the bad drive. If so, is there any other way to speed this up?

11 TB in 50 hours, that's ~5.5 MB/sec, which is a quite normal speed for a USB 2.0 hard drive. If the hard drive is USB 3.0/1, then maybe there is a problem with either the controller or the drive itself. – zdimension – 2017-08-24T16:46:30.737

1I/O errors could decrease how quickly a file is transferred off the HDD. A single 1 kb file in theory, if it was on a bad sector, could take an infinite amount of time depending how program is programmed to handle something like that. In other words, if a program doesn't detect a problem like that, it could simply try forever to transfer the file. – Ramhound – 2017-08-24T16:58:23.840

Thanks guys. It looks like I got hit by a progressive failure of the drive's PCB. The computer will now will not detect the drive at all. I'll have to try something else. – Eric Chow – 2017-08-27T03:07:59.697
