connecting an RFID reader per TCP/IP

0

We are trying to connect an RFID reader per TCP/IP to our network. The RFID reader in question is the CN56X0B-X-XX series from Civintec. Device manual: CN56X0B Access Control Door Reader User Manual v1.1.pdf

It says that on the top 8 pin connector youre supposed to connect the RX+, RX-, TX+, TX- (from left to right in that order) wires from your LAN cable.

We are using a Cat6 568B LAN cable and i checked multiple times that i used the correct wires, which i am sure i did. But sadly we can't establish any sort of connection, we cant even ping it. It's supposed to have the standard address of 192.168.1.100 which i pinged to no avail.

Heres an image of how i connected the wires:

Important note: the white wire is supposed to be orange/white and the red wire is supposed to be green/white. They are paired together correctly, despite having strange colors.

I simply can not establish any sort of connection to the device. Pinging it on its base address gave me 4 time outs. It's connected to a switch and the laptop i'm testing it with is connected to the same switch. The laptop's IP is 192.168.10.xxx, rfid reader's base IP 192.168.1.100.

Now i'm running an IP range scanner to see if anything pops up, but my hopes are low.

And yes the device is turned on.

Update: the program "Advanced IP scanner" lists the device when i make a scan but it still cant be pinged. – Moonpaw – 2016-01-08T11:04:59.077

"The laptop's IP is 192.168.10.xxx, rfid reader's base IP 192.168.1.100." they are on different subnets ... Ping to a different private subnet is only possible if they share the same gateway and have appropriate subnet masks. – DavidPostill – 2016-01-08T12:03:23.193

Yes, i suspected something like that and changed my own IP accordingly and put both devices on their own switch. I can ping it now, yes, but i cant access its configuration page in my web browser when i type in the IP of the rfid reader. According to the manufacturer it should display a configuration page in which you can change its settings, but its inaccessible for me. Which leads me to believe there is something else wrong or the rfid reader is faulty. – Moonpaw – 2016-01-08T12:19:10.557
