My avatar is a mantis shrimp, my favourite metazoan. They have the most complex eyes which are mounted on stalks and can move independently of each other (cool or what?)! They have 12-16 photoreceptor cell types (we have 3!).

There are surprisingly few good links on how to answer technical questions - I'll leave the final word on answering to the man who has > 1M points on StackOverflow.
