How can I find the WHOIS server for any TLD?
I'm looking for a reliable and up-to-date list of WHOIS Servers to use in a whois script.
Since the list changes frequently, it'd be nice if there were a resource I could refer to rather than having to update the script frequently.

We've been lusting after a dashless domain name for a long time. It's registered to someone else who doesn't use it as a public website, the whois data says it expires in a few years.
What should I do to acquire this domain, what should I avoid…

Does transferring a domain transfers DNS records?
Does transferring a domain name automatically transfer all DNS records? I'm transferring to GoDaddy. I'm particularly concerned with the MX records and others which one creates for Google Apps Email and other services.

What are the drawbacks of using a P.O. box as a contact address for WHOIS records?
I own a couple of domains where I currently have "WHOIS privacy", so my contact info is not revealed in the WHOIS database. I've learned that this arrangement has a significant pitfall, that is, it's the privacy company that really owns the domain,…

DNS: how does the world find my nameservers?
I have a domain, mydomain.com.au.
I make two nameservers for this domain, ns1.mydomain.com.au and ns2.mydomain.com.au, and load them full of NS records, A records, MX records and anything else I feel like hosting.
Now, how do I get these to be used?…

Why is my .name domain name reserved?
I was recently introduced to the .name TLD by a friend, since it would offer a good alternative to .com and .net, which are both taken for my last name. Naturally, I went to name.com, godaddy.com, gandi.net, etc. only to find out I couldn't register…

What criteria should I use when choosing a registrar?
I'm re-evaluating my choice of domain registrar, and need name registration services for 200+ .com, .net, and .org TLDs. There are a few .biz and newer TLDs.

Which domains list my server in their glue records?
My DNS server used to be the DNS server for a company's domain. However they moved elsewhere. Oddly enough, years later they were still listing my DNS server in their whois record (or, more properly, in their glue records).
Now I'm curious if…
