Is Gitlab the only vendor support subgroups level git repos?
Try to evaluate a few SaaS Git providers (e.g., Github, Bitbucket) other than Gitlab, but I don't think any of them support a subgroup level…

Strange IP routing - ping not working
From my server I can't clone repos from bitbucket.org nor reaching bitbucket.org using ping. Everything worked up to now with the current configuration.
Here is what I found out up to now:
