I just installed CentOS8...

$ cat /etc/redhat-release

$ 

... and now trying to follow Get Docker Engine - Community for CentOS | Docker Documentation, yet running into following error:

$ sudo dnf install -y yum-utils   device-mapper-persistent-data   lvm2

try to:

dnf install https://download.docker.com/linux/centos/7/x86_64/stable/Packages/containerd.io-1.2.6-3.3.el7.x86_64.rpm

This is indeed a very strange problem. disabling Appstream repository helped for me, but I still don't quite understand what happened:

dnf --disablerepo=AppStream install docker-ce
