I hope this is the right place for my question. I try to run docker on a Ubuntu vServer.

I installed docker ce according to the official documentation (https://docs.docker.com/install/linux/docker-ce/ubuntu/#install-using-the-repository)

When I run the last installation step ( sudo apt-get install docker-ce)

In the Terminal following message occurs:

If I run

sudo docker container run hello-world

I got following output:

Docker: Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running?

Anyone an idea? Thanks a lot
