I have a dell T5500 than i run with linux mint 20.3.

Recently one the fan start to have that issue that it starts to go full speed all the time.

When running the command sensors to check on the temperature in the case, i can see the following:

screenshot of sensors command output

As you can see the temperature of the cores is ok at around 40 degrees, while the ambient temperature is marked as N/A. I suppose one of the sensors is damaged and is giving that output, i would need some help in fixing it , mitigating it effect or simply reducing manually the speed of that one fan that goes wild because of that.

  • Wasn't me but you're likely going to get downvotes on this question. It's hard to thread the needle on Stackexchange questions but the problem with this one is it's vague and you're effectively requesting tutoring on how to fix the fan. For what it's worth - I wouldn't be surprised by the fact that ambient is N/A. It doesn't really affect the performance of the device - what matters is the temps for the individual components. There's a good chance there just isn't a sensor for ambient at all. I would focus the question itself on how to go about diagnosing fan issues. Hope this helps. – Grant Curell Sep 07 '22 at 15:09
