I am struggeling to understand the link between Rank and Channel
As far as I understand e.g.
E5-2680V4 supports Quad channel, means can access 4 channels simultaneously, which results in optimal cases into 4x the bandwidth of one RAM module
Means one DDR4-2400 Module can run at 19,2GB/s which results in total to 76,8GB/s with 4 channels. So far so good
having single rank modules 1Rx4 would require 4 RAM modules to add per CPU and this would result into 76,8GB/s
Having dual rank modules 2Rx4, does it require also 4 RAM modules to add per CPU, or can I use 2 RAM modules per CPU to have the full bandwidth?
If not, what is the benefit of 2Rx4 vs 1Rx4 modules? Any performance benefits or drawbacks?
How about 4R modules?
