Discovered a certain site that I would rather not link was being mean and probing a bunch of ports with ws://127.0.0.1:port and wss://127.0.0.1:port. I want to put a stop to it, but how? Then discovered ebay was doing the same thing and only my adblocker stood in the way.

If it had grabbed a normal HTTP server it would get nothing interesting, but port 6000 isn't an HTTP server and it should not be connecting, and no, old 90s protocols still in use over permanent VPN tunnels should not have to put up with HTTP connections sent to them. If the connection had been tried over anything other than localhost, it would have failed.

  • That looks like a scan from your machine to itself. I'm not sure how you are getting to "non-HTTP servers" or "VPN connections" in your conclusions. – schroeder Mar 29 '22 at 21:33
