TJM is known for two popular video series: Juice Rap News, in which commentary of political events is delivered in the form of rap, and Honest Government Ads, in which actresses pose as smiling government representatives to parody and explain the "shitfuckery" of the Australian Australien[note 1] Government (and, occasionally, other governments).

Honest Government Ads

The "Honest Government Ads" series has lampooned and criticized many facets of the Government's behaviour, a few of which include:

  • The governing Coalition's push toward authoritarianism through laws punishing journalists, whistleblowers, charities taking political stances, and even public protests ("My Police State",[2] "Quiet Australians",[3] "Charity Gag Law")[4]
  • Anti-encryption laws and their implications for personal privacy ("Anti Encrpytion Law")[5]
  • The Government's failure to tackle climate change, and its complicity in protecting Australia's biggest emitters ("Visit Australia",[6] "Adani Coal Mine",[7] "Climate Emergency & School Strikes",[8] "Australia's Renewable Energy Policy")[9]
  • Other ways in which the Government facilitates needless environmental destruction ("The Great Australian Bight",[10] "Visit the Northern Territory",[11] "Koalas & Trees")[12]
  • The Government's inhumane treatment of young people in detention centres, including indigenous people and refugees ("Youth Incarceration",[13] "Australia's Refugee Policy")[14]
  • How Australia's voting system, unlike that used in the US and the UK, allows voters to choose the party they truly want without fear of helping the "greater of two evils" win, and how the "Shit Party" and the "Shit-Lite Party" would rather that we don't think about this ("Preferential Voting")[15]
  • The constant attacks on and defunding of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation ("The ABC")[16]
  • How the Australian Marriage Law Postal SurveyFile:Wikipedia's W.svg was a waste of $122m and needlessly provided an extended platform for harmful anti-LGBT bigotry, when politicians could have just done their job and passed marriage equality into law based on existing opinion poll data ("Marriage Equality Plebbyshite")[17]
  • Australia's deals with Timor-Leste and West Papua facilitating environmental destruction, economic exploitation and human rights abuses ("Visit Timor-Leste",[18] "Visit West Papua")[19]

TJM has also covered international topics, such as the American Government's negative influence on Hawaii and Puerto Rico,[20][21] the Trump administration,[22] and the European Union's Internet Censorship Bill.[23]

Reactions

TJM's videos have been reported, praised, and discussed by a range of media outlets, both in Australia[24][25][26][27][28] and internationally.[29][30][31][32][33][34]

Government reactions

In 2017, TJM received an email from the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet citing "complaints from members of the public" about their parody of the Australian Coat of Arms, expressing concerns about it being mistaken for genuine Australian Government material.[35] Exactly who or how many people complained is unclear. Less than a week later, a bill was introduced in Parliament to amend the Criminal Code Act 1995 to "…introduce new offences for a person recklessly or intentionally representing themselves to be, or to be acting on behalf of, or with the authority of, a Commonwealth entity or service…"[36][37]

In August 2019, the Indonesian Government took action to block TJM's 2018 "Visit West Papua!" video from being viewed in Indonesia.[38]
