John Shimkus

John Shimkus is a member of the Republican Party, currently representing Illinois' 19th congressional district. He is a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce and was slated to become Chairman if the Republicans took over the House in 2010, as they did. He, instead, became Chairman of the Committee on Environment and the Economy. His extremist wacky anti-science conservative views on climate change drew a lot of media attention. He has served in the United States Army, ranked Lieutenant Colonel, is also qualified as a school teacher and is a member of the Lutheran church.

Views on climate change

Shimkus has stated that we really have nothing to worry about with climate change, because God promised Noah that after the great flood, Earth would be fine, so honest, we don't need any regulation. [1][2] He's also concerned that, since carbon dioxide is plant food, attempts to cut down on it will actually be harmful to the world.[3] Really.

gollark: Possibly less, since you wouldn't have to deal with multiple insurance companies I guess.
gollark: You don't think the government would introduce bureaucracy?
