Java Edition:Unlit Redstone Torch (Item)

The unlit redstone torch item was only obtainable from the debug chests generated in Beta 1.6 Test Build 3. All unlit redstone torch items are deleted in 13w37a (1.7 snapshot).

Obtaining

Beta 1.6 Test Build 3 Debug Chests

In Beta 1.6 Test Build 3, any newly generated world would contain up to 11 debug chests with every item in the game. The unlit redstone torch item was obtainable in the chests 3rd and 7th from the left in the 17th and 1st slots respectively, in stacks of 64.

Updating

All unlit redstone torch items are deleted in 13w37a (1.7 snapshot). The unlit redstone torches will disappear from all inventories; the unlit redstone torches will not convert into regular redstone torch items.

Behavior

The unlit redstone torch item will always place an unlit redstone torch block, even if placed on an unpowered block. The unlit redstone torch block receives random block updates. When updated, the unlit redstone torch block will become lit unless it is on a powered block.

Unlit redstone torches on unpowered blocks can regularly be obtained by burning a redstone torch out with a fast clock. The redstone wire that burnt the redstone torch out can be removed without updating the redstone torch. However, the unlit redstone torch item allows the unlit redstone torch block to be obtained on top of a half slab as well, which is not regularly obtainable since redstone cannot power a top half slab to burn out the torch.
