An Inclined Rail Without Connection is an inclined with no block supporting the rail. These can be used as regular inclined rails and can be updated into the latest version. However, any block updates in newer versions will have them revert back to regular rails or break.

Obtaining

Infdev

From Infdev 20100624 to Infdev 20100627, if you placed a inclined rail, and then break the support block, the game wouldn't update the inclined rail to a flat rail.

Pistons

From Beta 1.7 - 17w46a (1.13 Snapshot) by moving a rail into a unsupported position it will try and connect with nearby rails like normal until popping off a tick later, this includes the nearby rail inclining to meet it.[1]

This was reintroduced in 18w22a (1.13 Snapshot) - 25w42a (present) though now no longer working with activator, powered or detector rails.

Exit Portal

Placing a inclined rail resting on a block that's inside the exit portal area, will leave the rail without a connection once reset.

This was first possible in 15w31a (1.9 Snapshot) and worked until 17w46a (1.13 Snapshot) where afterwards it would also destroy the rails.
