Throughout many versions, it has been possible to obtain floating Redstone. Methods include Update Suppression, vote rules in an April Fools' version, and updating gear.

Obtaining

Update Suppression

One way to obtain floating Redstone is with Update Suppression. To do this, suppress the block underneath Redstone dust, then break it. This will result in floating Redstone dust.

23w13a_or_b less_interaction_updates Vote

In 23w13a_or_b, it is possible to approve the less_interaction_updates vote, which tells the game to stop receiving most updates. Then, simply break the support block below the Redstone dust. This will result in the Redstone dust floating.

When updating a gear after Alpha 1.0.1, it will convert to Redstone dust.
