Normally, chickens mounted by zombies can't lay eggs. However, in previous versions, this limitation didn't exist.

Obtaining

From version 13w49a to 1.7.10, any chicken jockey that spawns will not be restricted from laying eggs. In 14w02a and any version after, any Chicken Jockeys will spawn without the ability to lay eggs.

In the April Fools' version 22w13oneBlockAtATime, the player can pick up nearly any entity to create mob stacks in any combination. This powerful method also allows for Chicken Jockeys laying eggs to be obtained.
