Introduction

If your Mr. Coffee Espresso Machine and Steaming Wand is not producing water out of the group head (where the coffee should come out of) or producing steam out of the steam wand, your espresso maker is probably clogged by mineral build up. A simple descaling process will clear this buildup and restore your machine to prime condition. Even if your machine is not clogged, periodic descaling is recommended to keep your machine at its best and reduce the chance for additional damage caused by clogging.

This guide will walk you through how to make your own descaling solution, descale the espresso machine, declog the steaming wand, and clean out the solution to return your machine to working order. This guide does not require any special skills or parts.

Caution: Never open the water reservoir cap while the machine is pressurized. This can cause the boiling water to erupt out and cause burns. Do not brew out entire volume of descaling solution because the pressure on the machine will be too high. Always allow machine to depressurize overnight before removing the water reservoir cap.
