Roborock S5

The Roborock S5 is a smart vacuum cleaner released by Roborock in April of 2019 as the base model of the S5 Max. It operates in conjunction with an app on its user’s smartphone, and utilizes laser navigation to accurately map the space in which it cleans. Additionally, the vacuum doubles as a mop, utilizing detachable cleaning pads and an internal water tank to thoroughly scrub floors.

With an original MSRP of $599.99, the S5 tends to be on the pricier end of smart vacuum cleaners. However, this price point is not without its justifications. The S5, like most of Roborock’s other models, was frequently praised for being among the most technologically advanced cleaners of their kind on the market.

The S5 has an impressive onboard navigation system which utilizes a periscopic Laser Distance Sensor (LDS) to keep track of the cleaning space. Additionally, the S5 is smart enough to distinguish certain rooms from others, and even ignore certain rooms altogether as no-go zones.

Roborock has never issued a recall of the S5. However, the S5 has since been discontinued in favor of newer models like the S8 and Q8.

Identifying the Roborock S5 is fairly easy. Simply turn the device over and check the sticker for the model number, which should begin with "S5." Another way to help identify the S5 is noting the three individual buttons on top: Power, Recharge, and Spot Cleaning. They should be individual buttons, rather than three icons together on a single bar. Additionally, the S5 also has an oblong wall sensor on either side and an air vent on its back side.
